Day 98 - August 6
Savage wasn't always as diverse as it is today. In light of the history of racial inequities in Savage and Howard County - and across the country - the CBMI Board developed a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion statement to acknowledge those past inequities and to express our dedication to ensuring that the Hall is a welcoming and inclusive space for all. Please join us!

Day 93 - August 11
We're excited to present @Savage Historical Society treasures on Throwback Thursdays, starting with Day 93 of #BaldwinHall100! This photo from the early 1900s shows Savage-Guilford Road, one of the main thoroughfares between Savage and Guilford since both towns’ early days. The dirt road connected both mill towns and was one of the earliest areas to have electricity, which was added when the Baldwin family owned and operated the mill. The mill provided electricity to Baldwin Hall and the worker’s homes until 1931, when BG&E brought electricity to Savage.

former B&O Patuxent Branch Rail Line. This is an extraordinarily scenic trail with fascinating connections to the historic operations at Savage Mill, Gabbro Quarry, and Guilford Quarry. We hope you enjoy this video and links to 2 articles about the history of the rail line.

Day 88 - August 16
Here's a fun fact for Day 88 of the #BaldwinHall100 countdown:
Did you know that our Baldwin Hall shares its name - and some history - with one in Anne Arundel County? Built in 1861, @Historic Baldwin Hall - Millersville was named in honor of the pastor who served there for 71 years, the uncle of our namesake, Carroll Baldwin, who spoke at our building's dedication ceremony in 1922! Across the street is a cemetery where many members of the Baldwin family, including Carroll Baldwin, are buried.

Day 87 - August 17
With 87 days to go to the #BaldwinHall100, we're asking Savage residents: Why do you love Savage?
"Because it is our family home, and has been since my great-grandparents came here from Virginia
with their children in the early 1900's, and on through the present time, where we have three great-grandchildren living in Savage - the seventh generation of my family to live here!! Our family loves SAVAGE!" - Louise "Lovie" Thornton (Lovie is sitting bottom left with the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th generations of the Thornton [Mathews] family to live in Savage. The first Mathews came to Savage from Warren County, VA about 1907 and lived at what is 9108 Baltimore St.)

The @Savage Historical Society marks the occasion with a special photo for Throwback Thursday counting down 86 days until the #BaldwinHall100! Built in 1921, this elementary school sat directly next to Baldwin Hall (seen on the left edge of the photo), but closed due to structural issues in 1937. Until a new school was completed on Savage Guilford Road in 1938 (the current @Bethel Christian Academy), classes were held in the town’s churches and in the Hall. #savagemd #historic #communitycenter #backtoschool #tbt

Day 83 - August 21
83 days to go in the #BaldwinHall100 countdown! Today we celebrate local Scouts BSA Troop 424, founded in 1946, which meets across the street at the @Savage United Methodist Church. During the summer of 1976, communities around the United States celebrated its bicentennial. On June 18-20, Savage celebrated at Carroll Baldwin Hall during their Savage Days community event and the Troop raised the flag. The Hall continues to benefit from the Scouts' dedication to service - a recent Eagle Scout project created our new trash enclosure!

Day 81 - August 23
Small but significant: As there was no county library in southern Howard County in the early 1900s, the Hall included one at the west end as part of its original design. Librarian Marian Mathews (pictured) had a weekly “Story Hour” during which she read to children dressed as Mother Goose. From 1966 to 1991 the Hall's library served as the Savage Branch of the Howard County Library System. 81 days to go in the #BaldwinHall100! #savagemd #historic #communitycenter #library
